A new investigation has discovered alarming amounts of fecal bacteria inside Starbucks iced coffee.
The revelations were unearthed by BBC’s Watchdog team, analyzing beverages from a variety of popular coffee breweries.
Of the companies investigated, Starbucks, Costa Coffee, and Caffe Nero were found to have “varying levels of the bacteria.”
Costa iced coffee contained the highest rates of contamination, with 7 out of 10 samples containing fecal bacteria.
3 out of 10 tested samples of Starbucks and Caffe Nero were contaminated.
A spokesperson for Costa Coffee released the following statement:
“It is extremely important to us that all our stores operate to high standards of hygiene at all times, and we take it very seriously when any store fails to meet these standards.
