COPYCAT RECIPE: GLAZED KRISPY KREME DONUTS


Ever wanted Krispy Kreme donuts the first thing in the morning, but didn’t want to actually leave the house to go get them? Well, with this recipe, you can make them in your very own kitchen!

Let’s Get Started…

The Things You Will Need:

Donuts

  • 3 (1/4 ounce) packages yeast (3/4 oz)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 1/4 cups milk, scalded, then cooled
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 7 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • canola oil

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons vanilla
  • 6 -9 tablespoons evaporated milk

How To Prepare: 

Dough

  1. After the dough has risen, turn dough onto floured surface; roll around lightly to coat with flour.
  2. Gently roll dough 1/2-inch thick with floured rolling pin. Cut with floured doughnut cutter.  Separate donuts and holes, as they take different frying times. Cover and let rise until double, 30-40 minutes.

Glaze

  1. Melt the butter and stir in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.  Add milk (or water) until desired consistency is reached.

Frying

  1. Heat your oil to 350F. Carefully place the donuts in the oil.  Cook on each side for about one minute.  Use chopsticks to flip the donuts and remove them from the oil.Place donuts on a rack or paper bags or paper towels to drain.

The Last Part: 

  1. Dip them in the glaze and set them on a rack to dry.

Note: These donuts are pretty damn amazing, especially with a tall glass of milk. If you plan on making this for breakfast you can just let the dough rise in the fridge overnight. That way, the next morning you are ready pretty much ready to fry!

 

  • Notes: If the dough is too heavy after the first batch try scalding the milk or replace the milk for water. Others have said this works for them.
