HAVE SOME EMPTY CORN COBS? DON’T THROW THEM IN THE TRASH – MAKE THIS INSTEAD!

Many of us think that when the corn is off the cob- the cob is no longer of any use. This is why we usually just throw it away and forget about it. However, there are actually some real uses for those corn cobs and they are pretty amazing!

Some Things You Can Do With Empty Corn Cobs Are:

1. Corn stock.
Toss cobs in pot, cover with water, add a few big pinches of salt, simmer an hour. The stock will be sweet, fragrant, golden in hue.

2. Corn cob jelly.
Boil cobs with water for 10 minutes, strain, add pectin and you’ve got a traditional, old-school farm stand-style jelly that’s sweet and honey-like.

3. Milk them.
Use back of a knife to scrape naked cobs, remove starchy, milky liquid, called corn milk. Catch liquid in bowl, add to corn soup to thicken it.

4. Enhance poaching liquid.
Toss naked cobs in a zip-top bag, stash in freezer. Add cob to poaching liquid the next time you’re at it. It will infuse its flavor into meat.

5. Smoke meat.
The naked cobs are placed over the charcoal and give meat a sweet but mellow smoky flavor.

Finished!

Now that you know what you can do with corn cobs you may never throw them away ever again.
